Terrorist, 21, gets 25-year prison term

WASHINGTON (UPI) -- U.S. officials Thursday said a Virginia man was sentenced to 25 years in prison for threatening South Park TV show writers and for other alleged terrorist acts.

Zachary Adam Chesser, 21, of Fairfax County, Va., pleaded guilty Oct. 20 for encouraging violent jihadists to trick and desensitize law enforcement and for trying to provide material support to the terrorist group al-Shabaab in addition to encouraging the killing of the TV writers for a South Park episode depicting the Muslim Prophet Mohammed in a bear suit, the U.S. Department of Justice announced.

Chesser was also sentenced to three years of supervision following his prison term.

"Zachary Chesser encouraged violent jihad. The FBI is concerned about U.S. citizens traveling overseas to join al-Shabaab, and we are vigilant in working to disrupt potential plots where U.S. citizens become further indoctrinated and return with actual terrorism experience and training," said James W. McJunkin, assistant director in charge of the FBI's field office in Washington.
