Zig Ziglar
One of the most complimentary things you can say about a person is that he or she is a "go-getter," meaning he or she approaches tasks or studies with considerable enthusiasm and stays with it until the task or study has been completed.
Personally, I'm motivated by go-getters, but it's the "go-givers" of life who get more. As a matter of fact, the philosophy upon which we have built our business is the concept that "you can have everything in life you want if you will just help enough other people get what they want."
Dr. Elie Wiesel, a Nobel Peace Prize winner, made this observation: "May I share with you one of the principles that governs my life? It is the realization that what I receive I must pass on to others. The knowledge that I have acquired must not remain imprisoned in my brain. I owe it to many men and women to do something with it. I feel that need to pay back what was given to me. Call it 'gratitude.'"
Most of us want to leave this place better than it was when we arrived. We can do that by teaching our children how to work, how to play, how to live, how to worship our God, how to genuinely love our neighbors and how to clean up what we've messed up.
The basic problem is that we occasionally get complacent, take things for granted or deny that we have any responsibility to pass on what we have received. That's unfortunate because it's clearly been demonstrated that those who do for others are happier than the recipient of the good deed.
The message is clear -- be generous with others, and you yourself will benefit. Take that approach, and I'll see you at the top!
