Outraged dad makes sex offender signs

RITTMAN, Ohio (UPI) -- An Ohio man who says his young daughter was sexually assaulted by a neighbor has posted signs warning of the presence of a sex offender.

Mike Sayre of Rittman, about 50 miles south of Cleveland, is resisting calls by other neighbors to remove the signs, WEWS-TV. Cleveland reported Monday. They complain the warning is lower property values for everyone.

The signs, made of plywood and spraypainted, say: "Beware, a sex offender lives close."

Kansas City police say 1970 killing solved

KANSAS CITY, Mo. (UPI) -- Police and prosecutors in Kansas City say they have solved the 1970 killing of Leon Jordan, a former police officer and black political leader.

The Police Department released a 900-page report Monday that said the shooting was planned by James "Doc" Dearborn, a leader of a criminal organization, the "Black Mafia," and that the traditional Mafia also may have been involved, The Kansas City Star reported. Dearborn was killed in a 1985 shooting.

Expert: Concerns in Afghan drawdown

URBANA, Ill. (UPI) -- An Illinois professor specializing in international conflict says there are glitches in withdrawing U.S. troops from Afghanistan and history is not on our side.

With President Obama set to announce Wednesday evening at least a small drawdown, Professor Paul Diehl of the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign said the "major concern is the slow pace of progress despite the increase in U.S. troops and the significant development aid granted to the country." <...
